Giving

Giving is the most important part of our club's activities.  We give consistent with our Mission to "Improve the lives of women and girls through programs leading to social and economic empowerment." Our decisions are made locally and attempt to address local needs whenever possible.

Community Donations

Dear Soroptimist International of Novato,

I personally wanted to thank you for accepting me to receive an annual award for my studies.  With great gratitude I want to thank you for choosing me.  I will be attending San Jose State University, majoring in Nursing.  I was worried about how I will be able to afford college.  Coming from a low-income household, college was always a high reach for my family.  I will be the first in my family to attend college, thanks to you.  This scholarship has opened the door for a better future.  My words will never suffice to the amount of gratitude I have.  Thank you for seeing my potential, and thank you for helping me be one step closer to achieving my dream.  This scholarship helped me close the college money gap I had, so I do not have to use loans to pay for my college.  Thank you again, and I promise to work hard and make a difference in my community.

Sincerely,

A.M.

Farac Receives Leadership Scholarship

We are happy to welcome, Rachel Farac, as one of our newest Soroptimist members.  She is also the recipient of our Novato Leadership program scholarship and a 2019 graduate of the program. Rachel said she learned about Novato’s government, how Novato works including the school system, non-profits, and the transportation challenges.  Her team addressed the housing crisis in Novato by organizing a JADU Expo (Junior Dwelling Accessory Unit) which had about 100 attendees and resulted in six new JADUs being built in Novato.  She has already implemented what she learned from Leadership Novato and is in the process of becoming a mentor to an underprivileged child at Hamilton School.  She also started attending meetings to help organize the Novato 4th of July parade and is on the committee to plan and organize Novato’s Paint the Town Red.  Rachel is also heading to Washington, D.C. to talk to congress about climate change.  If that isn’t enough, she is currently a realtor with Coldwell Banker and involved with the Mental Health Board of Marin County, Marin Humane Society, Junior League, and was a former member of the Civic Grand Jury.  Congratulations to Rachel and we welcome her to Soroptimist International of Novato.

Projects:  Median Strip

At the intersection of Redwood Boulevard and Grant Avenue is a median strip with a city-operated fountain. The median is one that Soroptimist International of Novato has claimed for maintenance.

The Median Sign is a project that involves our member cooperation once or twice a year.  The strip provides nice visibility next to the City fountain on Redwood Highway.
