FEBRUARY SPEAKER MEETING in Novato
"100 YEARS AGO WOMEN WON THE BATTLE FOR THE RIGHT TO VOTE!"
Wednesday, February 5, 2020, noon to 1:30 pm
Featuring: Ann Wakeley, Co-President of the League of Women Voters Marin
Location: Mary Pizza, 121 San Marin Drive, Novato
With the use of photos, newspaper headlines and other graphics from the period, Ann will weave the raucous and often dangerous story of the journey from Seneca Falls Convention 1848 in New York (first women rights’ gathering in the U.S. and called the birthplace of feminism) to the final vote in the Tennessee legislature that ratified the 19th Amendment to the Constitution giving American women the right to vote in 1920. That November, more than 8 million women across the U.S. voted in elections for the first time. It took over 60 years for the remaining 12 states to ratify the 19th Amendment. Mississippi was the last to do so, on March 22, 1984. If you need more information about food cost or menu choices, please contact Pam LeDonne. She can also reserve a space for you.
