Take a trip of a lifetime, one where you will be transformed and informed, learning the history and culture of Kenya and supporting Soroptimist International of Novato and Daraja Academy, a school started by Jason and Jenni Doherty of Marin County. Their vision and commitment led to the establishment of a high school for young girls from different parts of Kenya, providing them with quality education, transition to university and support as they lift themselves and their families from poverty.
Travel to Nairobi, then to Daraja Academy, and on to game preserves with excellent guides who take care of all the details. Lovely Leila Ali Ibrahim, graduate of Daraja, and Stephen Stems, travel guide, share their love of Kenya and devotion to their work as cultural ambassadors, taking care of visitors from arrival to departure.
The 14-day ITINERARY is available to print out.
My name is Leila Ali, a graduate of Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology, Nairobi, with a degree in Microbiology and a leadership certificate from the African Leadership Group (ALA, ALU, ALX).
Currently I am working as a Fundraising Manager at Daraja Academy, a school that made me the person I am today. I am a huge believer in girls' education, and I believe the only way to justify your privilege is to solve a big problem. I want to solve the problems Africa is facing from poor health, bad governance, poor infrastructure, and lacking education. I want to connect to the big picture by identifying opportunities, creating sustainable solutions, and continuously iterating. I want to be part of the Africa rising narrative.
